After reviewing just about every non-alcoholic beer I could find in Alberta, I decided it was time to branch out.
I randomly grabbed a box of Atypique Gin & Tonic recently. “Atypique” translates to atypical or not normal in English, a fitting name for a brand that takes pride in doing things differently.
Atypique boasts a collection of non-alcoholic ready-to-drink classic cocktails or mocktails including a margarita, gin & tonic, mojito and amaretto sour.
Atypique is a French-based company co-founded by former CFL player Étienne Boulay. He played for the Alouettes and the Argos. From my basic French, I learned the company started in Quebec around 2021 and since expanded to Ontario, Alberta and, even the United States. It also became an official drink partner of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2024.
“Atypique is meant to push the limits of the ready-to-drink industry by offering outside-the-box, beyond-the-normal-standard products …”

My Review – Gin & Tonic by Atypique (355 ml, 60 calories, 0.5% ABV)
Name Bling (name creativity) – I love the brand’s cheeky name but I especially love the mission statement by the founder. Here’s an excerpt: For as long as I can remember, I have always considered myself as an atypical person. I have never fitted in standards that were established by others, and I have never wanted to follow their path.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sip n’ Savour (Taste) – I can count on one hand how many times I have drank a Gin & Tonic. Now I need two hands now for this mocktail version. It’s refreshing and not at all sweet, which I love. I enjoy it over ice after dinner. Very satisfying. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wallet Wellness Index (Value for Money) – I picked up a package of four at Walmart. It rang in about $12.99. Reasonable in comparison to other mocktails. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Label Love (Packaging/ Presentation) – Love the messaging “no need to fit in” and “a beverage for the bold.” The ones that never shy away from being themselves. What you see is what you get. The light blueish can is simple, clean and appealing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Overall – Cocktails or mocktails generally are not my usual drink of choice but once in awhile I like to swap out my beer or wine for something different, and this one hits the spot. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
