glute injury

I can’t take this glute injury sitting down – literally

The thing about injuring your butt muscles is … you need your glutes for just about everything. Our glute muscles are one of the strongest muscle groups in our bodies.

Not only do we use them for walking and running but with the basics of living standing, balance and stability.

It has been nearly four months since I tripped on a log in Kananaskis and was unexpectedly thrown into this glute injury healing journey.

Glute injuries can be frustratingly slow to heal because you need them for everything.

How do you rest a muscle that you rely on every single day?

The worst part has been the sitting. In recent weeks, I returned to running and hiking. It’s been awkward but I have to put stress on my injury so it will eventually heal.

After a run, the discomfort really kicks in. Sitting, especially when I am driving, is incredibly uncomfortable. I have been keeping my drives short because anything over an hour makes my backside moan in pain.

All that said I feel like I have turned a corner in the healing process. When I first hurt myself, I could barely walk and I was in so much pain. Now it’s just a balancing act of resting, doing the physio exercises and staying active.

It’s just super frustrating because I didn’t get to spend that much time in the mountains this past summer or fall. I keep reminding myself to be patient. It’s better to fully recover than to push too soon and prolong the healing.

What helped you stay patient and positive during recovery? I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
