Today I am excited to share my thoughts on the Bob and Brad Q2 Mini Massage Gun. As someone who always has a tight muscle somewhere on her body, I’m thrilled to put this compact gadget to the test. Join me as I break down its features and performance.
But first let’s find out about the namesakes behind the massage gun. Bob and Brad are two world famous physical therapists, according in jest on their official website. The duo have a fun and informative YouTube channel and have invented several health-related products.
I binged several videos over the last couple of weeks after receiving the massage gun to review. There’s a lot of great stuff there for dealing with pain, mobility and much more.
I added a massage gun to my post-run and laying on the couch routine about a year ago. It helps me get rid of knots and reduce soreness. I watched several videos again to figure out how to use the many attachments. Honestly I only use it on my legs and glutes.
The Review
I charged my new gadget immediately. I couldn’t wait to put this mini massage gun to the test. Included in the sexy looking case were the mini massage gun, five massage heads (see below), a charging cable and the manual. The user manual recommends fully charging the battery (210 minutes) before first use. Enough time to skim the 17-page manual, and figure out the attachment game:
- Ball head – Used on large muscle groups (hello quads!)
- Air cushion head – Sensitive body parts
- Bullet head – Joints, deep tissue, trigger points (feet and wrists)
- U-shaped head – Spine, neck, shoulder
- Flat head – All body parts
The user guide includes a chart with recommended actions/speed/pressure etc for warm ups, recovery, pain modulation and more. There’s a few pages dedicated to body parts for the recommended attachment, a protocol for using it and duration. For example, for the glutes, use the flat head and sweep from A to B on each side for two minutes for a total of four minutes.
This attention to detail instills my confidence in the product, given the founders' expertise in physiotherapy.
How does it work?
With its simple design and five massage frequency levels, operating the mini massage gun is a breeze.
Once fully charged, I attached the ball head and got to work on my calves and quads. The mini is very light – only 1.5 lbs but holy it is powerful. I liked the ergonomic grip feels natural (like gripping a softball) and natural.
It hurts so good.
I’ve been using it for about a month now and I continue to love it especially when I am lying on the couch and feel I should do something to release my tight muscles. Because it is pocket-sized (a big pocket), I taking it just about everywhere with me. (You never know when you need a quick muscle release!) I haven’t taken it on a long run yet (only in my trunk) but I know it would fit easily into my running pack.
Two other questions you may have:
Noise level: The mini uses noise reduction tech to maintain a sound level under 60dB even at maximum speed. Translation: Not loud.
Battery life: I have only charged the battery a few times – it has never run out because like in the case of my iPhone, I never let the battery drain completely. (Yes that may be an unpopular opinion.) But the literature says the battery lasts about four hours.
The end result – Size does matter
Bob and Brad’s fun-size, powerful performance, and simple design features make it a standout choice for effective muscle relief on the go. It’s become an essential part of post-run routine, and something to do while I am watching old seasons of MasterChef. Get yours!
