Dry Run Diaries: Partake Brewing’s IPA

No one has ever confused me for a hipster or someone who is trendy but here I am embracing the non-alcoholic craft beer craze.

Admittedly, it has been fun sampling all the new-to-me no booze beer. Funny enough, I never considered myself a beer drinker so this may appear a little off brand to you. Also I don’t consider myself a beer connoisseur but I am excited to learn about beer tastings.

The first beer I am officially reviewing for Dry Run Diaries series is from the award-winning Partake Brewing – its signature IPA. I had reached out to the company for a quick interview but I didn’t get a response. Research tells me this is the first beer that the company started with so I couldn’t think of a better beer to sample.

Partake Brewing has at least 10 styles to choose from in the fridge: Hazy IPA, Pale, Dunkel, to Peach Gose, Red and more. I’ve seen at least four different kinds on the shelves here in Calgary. The company brews its beer in Toronto and Cincinnati.

There’s a lot to like about this beer especially Partake Brewing’s origin story. Founder Ted Fleming started the craft non-alcoholic company a couple years after he was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. He was forced to give up alcohol. He started exploring the non-alcoholic options, and knew he could do better.

Now let’s dive into my review.

My Review – Partake Brewing’s IPA (10 calories, Less than .05% alcohol by volume)

Name Bling (name creativity) – Considering the company name, Partake Brewing is pretty clever playing on the phrase to partake in food or drink. The IPA earns a solid ⭐⭐⭐

Sip n’ Savour (Taste) – The difference in beer taste comes down to the type of yeast used to ferment the beer. The distinct taste of IPAs, known for hoppy flavors, is well-captured by Partake’s IPA. Light and hoppy, with notes of grapefruit and sweet floral undertones, it’s a brew meant for sipping and savoring. I didn’t actually detect the grapefruit but it’s still a solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐.

Wallet Wellness Index (Value for Money) – I haven’t bought any online or from the liquor. I have been picking up my no booze bevvies at the supermarket. I love that I don’t have to make a trip to the alcohol store to buy non-alcoholic beverages. I’ve seen the price anywhere from $6.99 to $10.99 for a four-pack (355 ml) at the supermarkets. Price is good compared to regular beers – which can be up to $20 for a four-pack of craft beer. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Label Love (Packaging/ Presentation) – Nothing too flashy here, very straight forward – cans in box. The description is not bad ‘non-alcoholic brews for people who dive into all live’s pursuits and passions.’ Love this! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Overall – I’m a fan. I really enjoyed the IPA. It’s just what I need in a beer after a long day of work. I find IPAs can be heavy and sometimes bitter. Not this one, I could drink it easily. The downside is I prefer the tall boys or the 473 ml taller cans of beer. I could drink one and I am satisfied. The regular cans always leave me wanting a little more. Still I am giving Partake Brewing’s a solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐
