Finding inspiration in two good books: Run The World and A Life Without Limits

What inspires you?

Lately I have been reading and listening to podcasts about inspiration, motivation, spirituality, limiting beliefs and life in general. My soul warms as I take in the messages and learnings with every word and soundbite. I’ve always been one who underlines words or phrases in books and copies passages in a notebook.

I like to be moved. I want to be inspired.

Recently I finished two great books – A Life Without Limits by Chrissie Wellington and Run The World by Becky Wade. I’ve never heard of Wade. And I knew in passing Wellington was an accomplished triathlete.

Two great books to add to your ‘must read’ bookshelf.

I started with Run The World and I finished within a couple of days. Basically the college runner spent a year running  in nine countries around the world to learn running secrets from different running cultures as part of a fellowship. (Wouldn’t that be amazing?) Her experiences were very interesting, and it seemed like she learned a lot because I think today she is an accomplished marathon runner.

I quite enjoyed A Life Without Limits. Mainly, I think, because I had no spoilers. I knew nothing about Chrissie Wellington. In fact, I thought she was from New Zealand. The “Wellington” surname had me convinced. Anyway, this book was very straight forward, relatable (even though I have no desire to do a triathlon) and not fluffy. In fact I had to stop myself from Googling to find out how well Wellington did in all these races while reading because I was so vested in her story. After I finished the book, I had to Google to find out if she married Tom.

I liked that it wasn’t all about training (because my eyes tend to gloss over during these bits) and more about her childhood and relationships. Maybe if I were a triathlete, I would want more insight into her training but I didn’t and I am OK with that.

Put down those Fritos and get out and run

Both books were inspiring and motivating for different reasons. I loved reading about different running cultures and people around the world. Running is an amazing sport that has touched and helped so many people. I love travelling so it was no surprise I was glued to this one. Not to mention, it’s also great to read books by female runners. Months ago, I read Let Your Mind Run by Deena Kastor, and it may have been the first I had read by a female runner. I’m not sure why that is but it just came to me.

Leaves are changing … fall is here.

I digress … the seasons are changing and I am feeling the need to be inspired. I would love your book or podcast recommendations. Please let me know in the comments below.

Have a great Sunday!
