Spring into running

Spring has hit Red Deer. Running this week has been absolutely fabulous. The ice and snow are finally melting, which makes for a smooth run. It’s also awesome for puddle jumping, one of my favourite things. The only downside is the motorists who love to splash pedestrians.

I reduced my yoga this week so I could get in three solid longish runs. I am right on track and it feels great. March is all about hilly runs and endurance. My long runs on the weekend are great but I need to stay focused during the week. Besides nothing feels better than a run on a cool spring night.

deer(These two fellows took notice of my speedy descent on the Spruce Drive hill tonight.) I haven’t gone back to crossfit in weeks. I don’t think I will renew my contract when it expires in a month. My priorities have changed and the classes are not working for me anymore. Besides my shoulder is finally back to normal and I don’t want to get back to the injured-shoulder/healed-shoulder cycle once again.

I’ve been wearing hats a lot lately on my runs. Remember this one from 2012? I am tempted to register for Calgary but I think I will stick with my three trail races later this year. I may consider running a fall/winter marathon since New York is out. Any suggestions?

Every spring I take a mud puddle selfie. I know it’s not technically spring but I couldn’t resist. This one, outside my office, worked on the first try. Love when that happens.

I am using a training plan that calls for about 80K a week for my three races (40K in August, 54K in September and 50K in October). As of last week, I was running about 50Kish a week. I know it doesn’t seem much but it’s a big gain for me. It’s a big gain because NOTHING hurts.

I hate to say this out loud but I may not be officially off the injury reserve list. I credit my medical team and yoga, of course.

Cheers to injury-free running. Happy trails.

Update: I didn’t get into New York nor did Audrey. I was only slightly disappointed and it will save me a lot of money. The race entry alone is $464. However, I was hitting refresh on my computer all day. Now I know and I can start planning my holidays for the year.

I saw deer on my long run yesterday, it gives some breath to my run.
So happy that you are injury free right now. Blessings!
