First I’d like to get things rolling with my pal Cory, who you may remember was gearing up for his first marathon. I met Cory a couple summers ago. He was part of my Olds Mud Team – Full Muddy Jacket in 2012. Cory’s new found enthusiasm for running is contagious. I am so happy for him! I blame Cory for quilted me into signing up for Rundle’s Revenge in Canmore in two weeks. We are both signed up for the 25K. It will be Cory’s first trail run and my second “race” this season. Okay enough about me. Read about what Cory has to say about running his first freaking marathon!
Mark, who ran his second 50K and first on road, smashed his goal of hitting the timing mat under 6 hours. Mark and I will be running Lost Souls together in September. He’s registered for the 50 mile trail race. I have no doubt he will rock this race. We’re hoping to do some training together this summer.
Yvonne and Brent both shaved about 8 minutes off their half-marathons times. I am really sad that I didn’t get to see them finish!
Steve ran his first 10k which he said was a lot of fun and “only a few children were faster than me.” I am trying to convince Steve to run Calgary’s Stampede Road Race because I don’t want to drive to the race alone. Besides I need someone to take my picture.
Likewise Jennifer shaved some serious minutes off her marathon and EARNED a wicked new PB. Jennifer is one of the co-managers of Red Deer’s Running Room. She worked super hard this winter. I am so proud of her. I saw her around the 30K mark on the route. Big smile on her face. I knew she was having a great race.
Armed with a new strategy, Shannon went into her fourth half-marathon with a new outlook on nutrition and training. In January she began weekly bootcamps where she discovered muscles that would be able to drag her “carcass around the course.” Shannon followed a pace bunny running 10 minutes and walking 1 minute for her race. Usually she runs 5K or so before taking a short break.
First-time pace bunny John said pacing the half-marathon was one of his most challenging and rewarding experiences. Being new to pacing, John said it was tough but he managed to bring the runners in at the anticipated time. John said having the runners thank him and show their appreciation after the race was amazing.
“The race went really good, came in at 1:50:30, tried to break 1:50 the last km or so but I did not have those 30 seconds in me!” – Lindsey
I don’t actually know Lindsey offline so I don’t have a quirky little story to share. So head over to her blog – A Running Tale – for her full race recap. It’s a good one.
Well that’s it for me today. Once again thanks so much for stopping by my little corner of the Internet. I don’t want to bore you to tears with another Calgary-marathon related post. But I promise my race report is coming when you least expect it. Bahhhaaaaa!
Stay tuned and have a wonderful day!
This is a wonderful tribute!
Congratulations Cory on your first marathon!
Great job Mark on your sub 6 – 50K #2.
Congrats Yvonne and Brent on improving by 8 minutes! That's a lot in a half!
Congratulations Steve on your first 10K. I really really hope to see you at the Stampede Road Race!
Congrats on your new marathon PB Jennifer.
Congrats on your new PB with 10:1s Shannon. John Stanton would love that story!
Good job John on pacing and bringing your runners in at the right time. I bet you were showered with appreciation.
Lindsey, I hope you had a good race. You are so close, you'll break the 1:50 mark next time for sure! 🙂
Thanks for commenting Michelle. I love celebrating others successes!
