And the taper continues

I love sleeping in. I love not setting the alarm for 5:25 a.m. I love having a lazy Saturday morning drinking coffee and reading the papers online. I love not juggling my lunch bag, my running and crossfit bags, my purse and work documents every day.

Tapering sure has its benefits. The biggest, of course, is preparing my body to run 42.2 kms in about a week. The bib database was released today. Runners are able to search their bibs ahead of the race weekend to save time at the busy expo. My number is #3101. Not sure if there’s any significant in it. Maybe I will amaze everyone and run the marathon in 3:10.

My nerves haven’t officially kicked in yet. That will come when I am on the highway to Calgary next Friday. I have a few things I need to be before the race including calling Audrey, who is running another marathon with me. (This will be our 4th together and she has run one more marathon than me!). She has been training all winter in Phoenix so I know she will have a wonderful race.

Because the weather has been so nice, I am spending as much time as I can outside. I am not running as much but I am walking at lunch and to crossfit in the mornings. My body is welcoming the rest. Last Sunday I went to Sylvan Lake for a walk along the lakeshore I am lucky to live only 20 minutes away from this resort town. Maybe one day I will be brave enough to go swimming in the lake. Alberta lakes are very cold compared to Ontario ones so you have to be pretty brave. I often see a lot of people with wetsuits.

I can’t believe the countdown to Calgary is in the single digits. I am so looking forward to running this race – whatever the outcome.
