Marathon Monday: Calgary Marathon (Week 8 Training Recap)

Four weeks of hard training before I start to taper – that’s how I am looking at the rest of my marathon training. I am starting to get nervous excited! The weather has finally settled down and I am pulling myself out of my winter-induced slump.

Sunshine is my greatest motivator. This week I missed my interval training but I am pleased with my long run and strength training. I felt very tired on some days but I still managed to keep the #RunToCanadaDay streak alive. (Who’s idea was this madness?)

Week 8

Monday: Crossfit (morning) and 5K easy (evening)

Tuesday: 6K easy run

Wednesday: Crossfit (morning) 4K (evening)

Thursday: Mobility & 3K (rest day)

Friday: 10K tempo run
Saturday: 2K (rest day)
Sunday: 32 kilometres LSD

I know my mileage may look too low for some marathoners but this training actually works for me. Once I switch over to ultra training in June, I will be upping my mileage.

In the meantime, I truly believe with crossfit in my training mix, I am becoming a stronger and smarter marathoner. I make sure every run has a specific purpose and I listen to my body. I’ll be focusing on tempo runs and intervals in the coming weeks. Let there be sunshine! I feel a little behind the eight ball though because I have not run any tune up races. Yikes! I hope I don’t regret this come June 1.

  1. Another solid week of training! I'm very curious what your ultra training looks like? How many km a week will you do roughly?

    1. Hmm not sure yet 🙂 I know there will be a lot of hill training and back-to-back long runs. This 50K in September will be a killer.

    1. A combo of olympic weight lifting, gymnastics and body weight movements. It's really diverse. Every day is something new. That's why I love it.
