Marathon Monday: Calgary Marathon (Week 11 Training Recap)

I heard on a podcast once that you should end long runs with the feeling you could run more. You shouldn’t feel half-baked or ready to collapse. For this Sunday’s long run I decided to join Brent for his long run.

We decided to go to the Running Room because we were both feeling gross about another snowy long run in the cold. (See picture below. We’re so tired of dressing like this.) The marathon and half-marathon groups left the store at 7:30 a.m. so we had no choice but to run a shorter distance if we wanted to run with a group.

We were in luck because my favourite college instructor Laura was there. It was nice to see her smiling face! We ran with a group for about 6K until we took off on our own to run another 12K. I enjoyed this drop back week. (Back to the program next week. Yes I probably said this last week). I felt groggy for a bit because it’s been a few weeks since I set out so early in the morning. Yes, I could have kept going. Great run!

Overall I am happy with this week’s training. I added some hills to the mix which felt good! I have basically 8 weeks left of hard training before my two-week taper. I am trying to find a half-marathon or 10K to run next month in either Calgary or Edmonton. I feel the need to test my legs.

  1. Having that "I could keep going" feeling after a long run is always a confidence booster for me. I hope Spring arrives for you soon! It is definitely time to retire the winter running gear – bring on tanks and capris/shorts!

  2. Oh my goodness I'm so tired of dressing like that as well! It's totally freezing here in Halifax again tonight and we're supposed to get 35-45 cm of snow on Wednesday!!!!!!!!!! :0 I'm beginning to wonder if we will ever run in shorts again. 🙁

You had a great week in training. I enjoy scale back weeks as well every once in a while. Your body needs it. 🙂

    1. Exactly! it's been a brutal winter. I am not sure if I am more tired of the cold or talking about it.

    1. Yup. I hear you! It's defeating, right? Good lord, I hope I am not wearing a balaclava in June!
