Marathon Monday: Calgary Marathon (Week 12 Training Recap)

My fifth week of marathon training is in the books! I feel good about this week. It wasn’t ideal but I feel strong. I admit I was hurting for a couple days after my Sunday run. My old injury flared up on my right leg/foot but a little TLC and I was good to go by Wednesday.
My Crossfit WODs were solid and my runs were good. I stil have tons of work ahead of me but that’s part of the fun of training.

This past week I really listened to my body and gave it the rest and nutrition it craved. I know it has been said a zillion times but rest does a body good. Once again I did my long run on Saturday. I felt like such a rebel. Almost every runner I know does a long run on Sunday. Next week though I hope to get back into the Sunday long run habit. I like sleeping in on Saturdays.

Week 12 Breakdown:

Monday: Crossfit – 20 minute AMRAP of 20 wallballs and 20 burpees. Cashout: 40 med ball cleans.
Tuesday: Rest
Wednesday: 5K tempo run. Crossfit: 2 RFT of 30 wall balls, 30 pull ups, 30 pistols and 30 one arm DB snatch. 50 pounds for women RX. I did 35 pounds.
Thursday: Crossfit: Tabata of Push Jerk 85 pounds, air squats and push ups (8 rounds each skill)
Friday: 8K Tempo

Saturday: 28K LSD

Sunday: 40 minute bike and 500m swim

I am mostly back to my regular schedule next week. Whew! I know I shouldn’t use my whacky hours as an excuse for not following my training schedule. I just feel so off when I divert from my regular life schedule. Yes I didn’t do any track work this week. Next week, I promise to get back to it. (I love being on the track. This week I just felt like running to the rhythm of my own body and not the training plan.)

In the books:

Week 13
Week 14
Week 15
Week 16

Time sure is ticking by. I really need to find an April race in either Calgary or Edmonton. I am so jealous of all these race reports that I keep reading. I want a medal. Any race suggestions?

  1. Week 5 already!? Great job on listening to your body in training. Still a work in progress for me, lol.

If it makes you feel better, I didn't get a medal for my 25k yesterday, LOL. I did win a mug though. I just don't think it will wear well around my neck. 😉

    1. That's a bummer 🙂 Most trail races (that I have been to) do not give out medals. A mug sounds like fun!

  2. Calgary Police Half! April 27 🙂 I'm running it!
It's around the reservoir, so it should be scenic, so long as it doesn't snow 🙂

  3. Nice job on the workouts last week! I am a Saturday runner….I prefer to have the Saturday afternoon/evening to nap and be lazy after my run. Sundays to me feel like the day to get groceries, clean the house, etc. I'm strange I know 🙂

    1. It was a weird shift but I reason that I have sat on my butt all week – why waste another day?

  4. For April in Calgary, you might try the Spring Trio. There's a choice of 5, 10 or 15k. I got my 10k PB there.

  5. I used to do all my long runs on Saturdays a couple of years ago and it took me forever to get the hang of them being on Sundays because those were my "day of rest" ha. I'm always so amazed by your Crossfit training! Great job again this week! 🙂

  6. Congrats on your training so far! I have to admit I have NO IDEA what all those acronyms mean for Crossfit!

  7. amazing!! and great pic too!! you go!! you are so getting it done 🙂 and nice legs!!
