It didn’t take long for me to realize that I screwed up. I could feel it with every single step. My shoes were dead, and it was going to be a very, long run.
I had been wearing my Scott’s since last spring, and they have the rips and holes to prove it. I was hoping to have a faster paced long run this morning, but that dream was busted once I realized my mistake.
I am notoriously bad for replacing shoes. They are so darn expensive that I try to get every single metre out of them before I throw them into the shoe graveyard. I don’t know if there is a golden rule for when you should replace your shoes. I have heard that you should replace after 300 or4r00 kilometres of use. For some runners, this could translates to a few months of running.
Other factors including run surface, your running style and wear and tear also play a part for when it’s time for a new pair.
La Sportiva Prodigio Pro
I couldn’t wait to get a new pair after my run that I drove immediately to Gord’s Running Store. The store was hopping for a nice Saturday afternoon. There was a huge selection of training running footwear. I wanted to try something a little different so I asked to try on a pair of La Sportiva.

Friendly staffer Nigel told me that the La Sportiva Prodigio Pro felt like a cross between Scott’s and Peregrine. That sounded like a match made in heaven. I noticed right away how bouncy and cushiony they felt when I slipped them on. It could be that I was used to running in dead shoes.
The built in gator took a second to get them on but they felt really good. I also tried on another pair of La Sportiva but they felt more like climbing shoes.
I bought them. I have never worn La Sportiva shoes before so I am excited to give these a go. Now’s the time to lock down my shoes for Sinister!
