I hate to sound like a broken record but if you don’t move it, you will lose it. Just days after I finished Lost Soul, I was tethered to my screens for work and a three-month course. Hello screen fatigue. All thoughts of running and training were pushed to the wayside as I tried to keep up with my new workload.
I needed a couple weeks to allow my body to get back to normal. The 100K did a real number on my body.
But this week I took a mini break from work (holiday) to get outside and enjoy some of this lovely fall weather. Rachel and I met to do Moose Mountain from West Bragg Creek.
It’s been a month since I had been in the mountains so I was really looking forward to the day. Also it’s been ages since I have seen Rachel. The day was perfect (despite another pair of lost sunglasses). My legs and butts were feeling it the next day. I couldn’t believe how sore my legs were. All that sitting in front of my laptop has done nothing for my fitness.
I didn’t realize how tight my hip flexors had gotten over the last five weeks. Sitting is the new smoking as they say.
Gosh everything hurts after this short break. I know it’s only temporary but damn my butt hurt after Moose. I went up Prairie a few days later and my legs were still screaming. It was a lovely day out among the clouds. It was just what I needed after being in study and teach mode for weeks.
I’m halfway through my course so I am starting to relax a bit, and get outside more. I don’t want to miss all this beautiful fall running weather. The next race on the schedule isn’t until next year so right now I will focus on bumping up my weekly mileage and maintaining over the winter months.
