My left foot (Week #9 training)

I feel like this should be a foot update rather than a “training” update as every revolves around my left foot. As I mentioned last week, I am in the thick of trying to will my left foot to quickly mend.

Staring at it for hours hasn’t been working. So I finally dragged my butt to a highly recommended physiotherapist. Clearly there’s something going on with my body, which has manifested in my left foot.

Gosh it’s been years since I went to a physiotherapist. Still I knew there would be tests. I finally most of them. Simply put my whole body is out of whack. My quad is stronger than the other. One hammie is weaker than the other. And so on.

There was a glimmer of light … as my physiotherapist told me there was hope for me yet. Also my ankle mobility isn’t that bad but not that great.

At the end of the day, we determined I need to work on my hip strength. My right hip is weak as hell – no doubt causing a chain reaction which forces my left leg and left foot ultimately to pay the price in compensation.

Ugh … for all the work ahead to get my body back where I am moving like cheetah.

Beautiful Barrier Lake minutes after the dawn of a new day,

All that said I am scaling back on the running significantly. I don’t even know what I am training for now – my 100K in May or my 100K in September. Thankfully the weather has been rocking here in Calgary and in the mountains.

Took out my bike and I have been loving the pedal power.

Last Sunday I left super early to Barrier Lake. I arrived just after sunrise and I was awarded with a sky of colour.

I ran the short Prairie View loop taking my time to enjoy some alone time at the summit. It’s very rare being alone on this popular spot in Kananaskis.

Two hikers told Rachel and I about this igloo on Prairie Mountain. The man casually mentioned they were sleeping in an igloo when I inquired about where they were camping. I wasn’t totally convinced he was telling the truth because he had this glimmer of something in his eye.

Two weeks later I found it clear as day on Prairie Mountain. No way anyone slept in that overnight. Too narrow.

Anyway I am keeping my spirits up and active. I have enjoyed getting back on the bike. I haven’t decided yet what I am doing about Blackfoot Ultra in May. It’s approaching quickly and this should be the time where I am putting in tons of miles.

I am going to give it some more thought before I decide whether or not I am pulling the plug.

Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for reading.

Have you ever been to a physiotherapist? Did they help your injury? I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
