RWR Picks #7: Work, Travel and Talent

Work. For most people, we spent most of our waking hours working to pay the bills. It’s not always pleasant. Conflict. Differences of opinions. It can make your days long and unbearable. On the flip side, work can be awesome especially if you are doing something you love. What’s that saying? Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

Let’s get started.

PLAY THAT PODCAST

My new favourite podcast is TED’s WorkLife with Adam Grant. You guessed it work is the theme this week. I am behind in the times because it topped the Apple podcast charts for most of 2018. It’s that good. To borrow from the show promo: “Organizational psychologist Adam Grant takes you inside the minds of some of the world’s most unusual professionals to explore the science of making work not suck.”

Thankfully it leads up to its hype … the podcast does not suck.

My favourites so far have been When Work Takes Over Your Life, How To Remember Anything and The Office Without Assholes.

READ THIS BOOK

I’ve slowed down in my reading these last six weeks. I always feel much more grounded when I’m reading a good book so I am going to get back to it straight away. A trip to the library is in order this weekend.

I recently read this weird book An Ocean of Minutes by Thea Lim. I had no idea what the book was about. It was one of the 100s of random books that I placed on hold at the library.

It’s been quite some time since I read science fiction or dystopia fiction. I really need to concentrate when I read them because sometimes they move so fast. Anyway the premise is simple – there’s a pandemic flu in the United States, and a time machine. I won’t spoil it for you but there’s a love story central to the plot. Great book to read after a tough day at work. Escapism works every time.

SUBSCRIBE TO THIS YOUTUBE CHANNEL

Sometimes you need a good laugh or a good cry. I love watching Britain’s Got Talent. There’s clips from performances several years back. I especially enjoy the singers. So much talent! Wouldn’t that be a great job to sit and judge talent all day? No doubt it would have it challenges but still …. fun!

FINAL WORDS

Please let me know in the comments below if you like this new series. As well I would love to hear what you’re reading or what you are listening to. Have a wonderful week.

  1. I love seeing stuff like this–there is so much on the web and not enough time (or patience) to find it all!
