Week debrief: The doctor was wrong & other stuff

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could only focus on running and getting stronger? That you didn’t have to deal with the day-to-day of not being a professional runner? I can only dream.

This week I put in some time on the treadmill including an epic climbing session on Thursday. Sometimes I think it gets a bad rep. Honestly running on the treadmill isn’t so bad. Sure it’s not the same thing as running outside. You don’t get the same kind of workout but you can truly get in some solid training.

My legs were sore on Friday.

I usually put on a TV show or movie. This week I was obsessed with CBC’s Workin’ Moms. What a great show. Check it out on Netflix. The trick is to watch something that’s good so you will want to stay on the treadmill.

The big news? I think my ankle is healed. (The doctor estimated it would take up to a year for it to heal. OK maybe it’s not fully healed.) I have full mobility in all directions and nothing hurts! Yay. I can’t wait to start getting into longer runs on the weekend. I feel that I’ve lost some endurance over the last few months. Need to get on that.

Vegan gains

I’m still lifting heavy four times a week at GoodLife Fitness. I’m quite enjoying lifting weights again. (I miss Crossfit but there’s no way I could afford the membership again.) The gym by my place is still incredibly busy so I have to really consider when I train there. This week I made time to train at the Deerfoot location.

View from my chest press machine.

Surprisingly the free weight section at the gym was not busy both times that I made it at lunch. I was pleasantly surprised because I only have a short amount a time to train at lunch.

I start off with the free weights (dumbbells and barbells) then I like to finish with an extra push using one of the machines. I have to write down the location of machines because I always forget since I go back and forth between gyms.

Each week I have been adding a little weight to my presses, rows etc. I feel I have been making some gains. On December 1 I took a BEFORE photo and I promised myself I wouldn’t take another photo until March 1. I am excited to see my results. The scale keeps moving upwards so I know there’s muscle.

Right so this week was about staying active and getting in 50K. I am on track to do just that! I just want to run all the time but I know I have to take things slow. My diet has been pretty solid and I haven’t been emotionally eating as they. All good.

Hope you’re having a wonderful week. Thanks for stopping by!

Good work, Crystal, so glad to hear about the ankle feeling better! We sometimes forget the body’s amazing ability to heal!
