I know better.
Last week I went for a 10-mile on (gasp) pavement and I think it completely did me in. Around the 14K mark, I felt my right hip drop and my run turned into a wobble. Sigh. The last few kilometres were not fun. I was hobbling for the rest of the night despite my best efforts to undo the damage. I was in that familiar space where it hurt to run. I don’t know what it is but every. single. time I run more than 10K on pavement, my body rebels.
Remember that saying …. friends don’t let friends run on pavement. Gosh where were my trail buddies when I need them? Anyway the short of it is … I have one leg/foot/toe hovering on the injury reserve list. But don’t cry for me yet. I am determined to stay off the list and continue running. Injury begone. You have met your match!
Right so last weekend I stayed close to home for my long runs. I haven’t found time to see my chiro so I didn’t want to add any more damage to my body by sitting in the Versa for four hours. It’s been so nice in Red Deer lately that I had no complaints. My biggest hurdle lately is trying to get my head into the training game. My body is saying yes while my head is saying no. Yup it’s those mind games.

Time is ticking away – it’s May already! (Next weekend I am volunteering at Woody’s in Red Deer.) Training time is winding down and before I know it I will be tapering for Iron Legs. But I shouldn’t get ahead of myself – lots of time to train. Besides the sun is shining. What do I have to be glum about?
