I had another reason for signing up for the hypo half in Edmonton.
I wanted to spend time my good friends Carleigh & Jon. Carleigh was one of my first real friends that I made when I moved from Ottawa to Alberta. We share so many great memories. (Most are not suitable for this blog.) Jon was a welcome third wheel to our friendship.
Sadly as some relationships go, we had gone our separate ways. I really missed them both so it was great to finally put things in the past and move forward.
Carleigh and Jon had recently switched to a vegan lifestyle. So our first order of business was to hit up the Edmonton Vegan Meetup at Noorish on Friday night. I had the pad thai and we shared the walnut nachos. (Let’s just say I was carb loading for Sunday’s half marathon). It was a fun night.
But it wrapped up too early for us. So we headed over to The Buckingham for a beer and a glimpse of its all vegan, all the time menu. Carleigh raved about the “buffalo wings.” I loved the vibe of this bar. Totally chill. I haven’t been to Edmonton since the swearing in of Premier Notley. It was nice to see so many options for vegans.
Early, early Saturday morning we headed to Lahari Yoga for some early morning flow (whatever the hell that means). Now Carleigh has been into yoga since we met about even years ago. I could never afford to go to the local yoga classes. Plus my unbendy self was scared to death! Since I just completed 30 days of hot yoga, I thought what the hell.
It was a fun class but I missed the heat!
We grabbed a green juice and a smoothie before we headed to the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market. We strolled the aisles checking out the fresh produce and goods.
Next up? More food of course. We made our way to the Enjoy Centre to check out the Glasshouse Bistro & Cafe. We managed to veganize a big salad and brussels sprouts and fries to share. Oh so good! That night Carleigh whipped up a delicious Mediterranean sweet potato dish (Oh so good!).
Overall it was a fun mini-getaway. I didn’t force Carleigh & Jon to come out to my race. Believe me, Carleigh has waited at many finish lines for me over the years.
Whew! You can sure pack in a lot of activity when you are determined!
What did you get up to this past weekend?
Busy, busy weekend! Was so fun catching up and I already have some ideas for the next time. Don’t be a stranger <3
P.s. Jon totally is a third wheel ๐
P.P. s.s. <- not sure that's a thing…but don't worry about your dehydrator, we are taking great care of it
lol okay use it lots!
How nice to get together with an old friend. Old friends are really the best friends, aren’t they?
