Calling it: 2015 is a bust

You have probably guessed what I am about to write. After much debate, I gave up my bib for Lost Soul. I have been looking forward to this race after last year’s bust. I am disappointed but at this point there is nothing I can do about it.

My body is recovered from my injuries. It’s as simple as that.

I thought time and rest would heal all that ails me. As it turns out I need much more time to get back at my running best. Thanks to modern medicine I am feeling slightly better but I am just not there.

Clearly the good running “gods” are not on my side this year. And I have made peace with it.

(Don’t get me wrong I am still jealous whenever I see a new race report pop up on Canuck Running Bloggers or shiny, happy running pictures on Instagram.)

My medical team is convinced it is the inflammation in my pelvic area that is causing my hips and foot to scream bloody murder. Who am I to argue with modern medicine? So I will listen to doctor’s orders and take it easy. I have also refilled my anti-inflammatory pills. I am crossing my fingers that once I am at the bottom of the pill bottle, my problems will be over.

So that’s it. No more (big) races for 2015.

(I will run/hobble the Bill Nielsen Trail Run in Lacombe in October. It’s a 10-miler and I don’t think I can do too much damage to my body in an hour and half. I have a couple months to really concentrate on not hurting myself anymore than I already have.)

I am totally fine with not racing this season. I am happy to concentrate on being a stronger person physically (Thank you crossfit) and mentally (And thank you self-help books and blogs).

So thanks for stopping by. It’s always challenging to write about something that sucks without totally going off the crazy train.

Here’s to coming back stronger in 2016.

  1. Oh no Crystal, I'm so sorry you had to give up your bib for Lost Soul. Injuries are such a frustrating thing. No doubt that all of the crossfit and metal training you are doing will help you to come back stronger than ever.

  2. Sorry to hear this. You'll be back.. We can call the story Rhyno's Revenge (mwha-ha-ha!)

    1. Love it 🙂 Thanks Peter. I will just have to read about your running adventures to keep me entertained.

  3. I'm sure those 4 legs in the picture can work together to get you back strong soon!

  4. Boooo 🙁

I think I'm about to join you and wave the white surrender flag on 2015. I think Toronto Waterfront Marathon is now not in my plans – maybe the half marathon still. So disappointed 🙁

    1. 🙁 sorry to hear that. It is frustrating, isn't it? Oh well. Best thing to do is enjoy the rest of our summer!

  5. Aw sausage, that sucks 🙁 But your body lets you know what it needs and you have to listen. Running is for life, not just one goal race! Make 2016 epic. All the hugs xxxx
