I haven’t felt much of a runner lately. Not running will do that to a person. I kept reading blog posts and status updates about races and I feel a tinge of envy.
Taking it slow really sucks. But I know in the long run holding back will be good for this aging body.
I went for a run on Saturday afternoon. There’s been a lot of construction near my favourite running spot with detours and the whole works. It really is a pain in the butt. If I were healthy I wouldn’t care too much because I have been known to ignore construction signs and leap over manholes (true story).
I am embarrassed to say I drove to Three Mile Bend. I ran from the dog park to the perimeter trail where I soon learned was not accessible from Discovery Canyon. Sigh. There was no “construction” happening so I hopped the fence and rain the trail.
On the way back, it started to rain – a lot. I don’t care about getting wet but I was very concerned for my new iPhone. Let’s just say I ran the fastest 2K that I have in a long time. When I stood under the shelter driving off my iPhone, I just had to laugh.
I managed a lovely 15K run (rain and all) and I wasn’t limping at the end. I call that a successful run.
Sunday found me in Lacombe at 8 a.m. I met Diane and Cori for another 15Kish run along the wonderful Lacombe trails. Getting away from the pavement was just what I needed.
Diane and I have a tradition. Every time we pass this bench, we stop, drop and take a photo. One day we want to do yoga poses but the problem is neither one of us know any. We introduced Cori to our tradition. Fun!
I really like running with Diane because she doesn’t mind my constant whining about being injured. You got to love that in a running partner. Besides she’s such a nice person.
Great company for a couple hours on a Sunday.
Sounds like a nice weekend, and yay for pain free running! I hope it continues 🙂
