(Ultra) Marathon Monday: Taking a time out from training

I woke up to a limp on Saturday morning. Then I went back to bed and stayed there for most of my three-day weekend. I don’t take setbacks very well. I turned off my devices, sank under the covers and watched Netflix.

I was slated to run 30k on Saturday and another 10K on Sunday. Neither runs happened. I am resting today too (and no crossfit). Maybe four days of rest will do the trick? Cross your fingers it isn’t a serious injury.

As part of my rehab, I iced my hamstring and rolled out my leg all weekend. Gosh I have so much time on my hands when I am not running. (Maybe wine would have helped.) I have read so many books and websites about injuries that I think my head will explode. Maybe I am just getting the injury crazies – imagining the worst.

My plan is to get back to it tomorrow after work. I won’t make any decisions about cancelling Blackfoot until later this week. Obviously I won’t run or continue training at my current mileage load if I am in pain.

I don’t like to make a big deal about my injuries because I get the usual “that’s what you get from running” or “that’s why you shouldn’t do crossfit” (especially from my lazy coworkers. Just kidding H!). Stuff happens and I can only try to be smarter about injury prevention in the future.

The race is only 69 days away. I need every single one of those training days to be prepared. I don’t have enough long runs under my belt yet. Again please cross your fingers for me!
