Marathon Monday: Calgary Marathon (Week 14 Training Recap)

Wow! What a difference a week can make ….. I found my running groove. I’m back with a vengeance. I didn’t exactly follow my training plan (okay not at all) this week. I ran simply when it fit into my schedule.

You have to be living under a rock to not know about the deep freeze in Alberta. Yes this did mess with my plans to get outside. But I did not let Mother Nature win. I bought a punch card at a rec centre near my place. For the first time in a LONG time, I ran on the treadmill. It wasn’t too bad.  I got a solid hour in on Saturday. It felt great to be running without the fear of falling flat on my face and in shorts!

Overall I feel pretty good about Week 14. I went home one day during lunch for a quick run. I had no choice but to run fast because I only have an hour for lunch. I ran 3K, showered and went back to work within 60 minutes. I was pretty happy with myself.

Monday: Crossfit morning/4km easy
Tuesday: 8k tempo
Wednesday: Crossfit morning/3km fast tempo
Thursday: Crossfit evening
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 1 hour treadmill (speed intervals & hills) + 500 metre swim

Sunday: Track 10x400m (1:42 pace)

No LSD run again this week. That’s my second one (if you’re keeping track). As long as I keep active and moving I will be fine to jump back into the long runs. Next week I have 32k on the schedule. I do not want to miss this run. Please let there be sunshine and temperatures above -20C. Cross your fingers. While I am at it … I didn’t exactly do my planned intervals either. Does that mean I have to return the book?

  1. Oh dear, I hate this winter! We lucked out for our race yesterday but I've had to hit the TM 2x this year so far 🙁

  2. Nice job on getting your workouts in last week! This weather sucks I agree…so ready for it to pass! It's apparently supposed to warm up (fingers crossed!) here this weekend. I have 30kms to run so if you want to take a little drive and join me, I wouldn't say no 🙂

    1. I would love some time soon. Seems I am getting that cold that everybody has. Grrrrr! I hope it doesn't ruin my running plans!

  3. Awesome job on the training!! My training was good this week, but I am really over winter, I am SO looking forward to running in weather where every part of my body doesn't need to be covered. Also, those paces are crazy fast, you are amazing to run a sub 5 min mile, I am in awe of you!
