Marathon Monday: Training for Calgary

I haven’t started my official marathon countdown yet but I wanted revive to Marathon Monday. Call it a false start. My “get down to business” serious training starts next week. This is when I recap the previous week’s training and look ahead to the next seven days.

First off I am thrilled that the ground hog (at least two of them in Canada) predicted an early spring. Bring it on baby! Be gone winter!

Today I’ll let you in on what I have in store this week. I’m scheduling three 6 a.m. crossfit classes this week. Ugh. Believe me this works the best in my schedule. I am able to run at night this way. It hurts for a few weeks until I get used to it but it’s well worth it.  I’m planning a few short runs and a longish run for the rest of the week. I am working this weekend which means I have to adjust my schedule. The good news is I get a day off in the middle of the week.

Monday: 6 a.m. Crossfit
Tuesday: 6 a.m. Crossfit
Wednesday: Track after work
Thursday: 16k-18k run. Physio at noon.
Friday: 6 a.m. Crossfit
Saturday: Hilly run or hill repeats.

Sunday: Short run

That’s my week in a nutshell. It’s a relatively light workout week and I am totally fine with this. My body is still a little out of whack from crossfit last week. I can’t imagine what I am going to feel like by Friday!

Do you run/workout in the mornings or evenings? Both?

  1. Even with a "light" week you are still getting in some quality workouts. Take it easy and let your body recover. I am an early morning runner with the exception of Thursday evenings when I teach Group Power at the gym. It's really hard for me to rally and teach at night sometimes, since I am at my best before 4 p.m., I guess that is the result of having to wake up at 4:30 am everyday! Have a great week!

  2. That's a great week in workouts! I do my running in the evening except for days when I'm off…like weekends and holidays where I ran early morning. That's a great photo at the end!

  3. Training started last week for me and brought a cold with it. I'm struggling to find the motivation to run or workout this week…hopefully it doesn't hang around for too long.

  4. Sounds like a very balanced week. I can't even imagine doing Crossfit. I actually like working out just about any time of day. I've been an early bird and an after work person. I would rather get everything done early though so I can enjoy my evening!

  5. As soon as the days get longer, I'd like to get back into running in the morning…it is so calm and peaceful. For now, I am running in the evenings.

You are so dedicated to be completing some form of exercise all days of the week….I'm really trying to get to this point!
