First things first. I must say you definitely know who your running pals are when it’s -31C with the windchill.
John and I made plans to go for a short run this afternoon. I was looking forward to having some company and support. He texted a “Not sure about running with a minus 33 wind chill!!!!” around 9 a.m.
Um … right. No one wants to run when it’s -33C especially me! I cut John some slack and did not make him feel like he was an utter wimp. Afterall I’m the one who is chasing a crazy marathon time.
I wanted to spend at least 30 minutes on my feet because January is my maintain endurance & build strength month. Before setting out I gave my squats some attention. (I am starting up with Crossfit in another week and I have a feeling it’s going to be like starting over) I always try to “actively watch” television instead of plumping down on my butt. I sit enough all week in the newsroom. Today it was squats & lunges during Canada’s big loss to Finland. (Disclaimer: I don’t squat or do push ups during every hockey game. Key word here is “try”)
NEW RACE ALERT
In unrelated news, I’m running the Lost Soul Ultra 50K in September. The timing is perfect because it’s nearly three months after Calgary. This has been on my “to do” list for awhile now. I joined the Facebook group last year. I creeped A LOT. Now that I am “in training” I have been chatting with the members. I have joined so many Facebook groups lately that I think I need an intervention. I almost need a whole day set aside to read the posts.
Enjoy your day!
What races are you looking most forward to this season? How many Facebook groups/pages do you “like”?
Nice job getting out there on such a cold day!
Yes it was a challenge ๐ I have a feeling this will become a common scenario over the next 4 months ๐
