We quickly organized ourselves and headed for the registration area to pick up our bibs and such. I think we were both pretty nervous because we didn’t know what to expect. I wasn’t concerned about the running bit. After all I’m a runner who LOVES hills.
There were 300 people in each wave. We were able to see some of the obstacles from various viewing points. So cool. I could see the rope climb and I thought… yeah that’s where I will be doing burpees. If you were unable to do an obstacle, you were given a 30-burpee penalty. Ouch.
I loved this bin. I hope the shoes either go to a good cause! I wasn’t planning on throwing away my sneakers. A good wash and they would be runable once more. I digress … there were TONS of super fit looking people milling about. Great eye candy! I may have used every opportunity to chat up a hot looking dude. Yes, I have no shame! (Sorry I wasn’t crazy enough to take pics)
I failed the rope climb and the spear throw. You only have one attempt. Burpees for me! I didn’t mind. The final obstacle was jumping over “fire” before you are hit with two spartans. Then you are rewarded with a medal, tshirt and a beer.
And here we are at the finish! Super fun. Tara did amazing! (And not too many complaints!) Everyone was so helpful and friendly. For example, one dude helped me over the wall and a woman gave me a hand while I was struggling on the rope. Awesome! I can’t wait to do the Super Spartan next month.
Are you a Spartan? What do you think about obstacle course races?
