Run After the Rain

I knew if I waited long enough the sun would re-appear. I was polishing off my final story for the day when everyone in the newsroom started rushing to the windows. A hard rain and some hail was falling. Not completely newsworthy because it is summer in Alberta after all. You just have to wait 5 minutes and the weather will change.

Sure enough by the time I had put my story to bed and annoyed my coworkers while I chatted happily about my run, the sun was shining.

I had a busy day of running around so it was nice to be alone with my thoughts and work out the day’s stresses. I planned to run between 8 and 10k. I headed in the direction of Coronation Park. I haven’t run this route from my office in a long time. It was quiet on the trails and sidewalks.

I turned around at the Stone Circle, Red Deer’s first permanent aboriginal monument. This was recently constructed after many years of hard work. It’s really beautiful. This park is usually the backdrop of weddings. I suspect many people will be using the circles for their pictures now. I’ve already seen many picnics here in the last couple weeks.

I turned around at the Stone Circle (4K) and I noticed this sign while I entered Barrett Park. I love the phrase, “Children are the Seeds of Tomorrow.” Wonderful. Made me smile. I kept on and still didn’t see many people on the trails. I was feeling good and I sprinted up the Spruce Drive hill (think steep) until my legs bellowed “enough!”
Running after a recent rain is somewhat calming. I don’t know what it is. Sadly, I did not see any rainbows.
Did you run today?
