1. Cute Running Outfits. I’m so done with bulky layers. Done. Done Done. I want to wear pretty running skirts and dresses. My legs are dying for some sunshine. I am so tired of wearing long sleeve shirts and toques.
2. Better trails. No snow. No ice. Every day it feels like I am risking my life while trying not to twist an ankle or throw out my back while avoiding patches of ice.
3. Motivation. Getting up at the crack of dawn to run in knee deep snow and -30 C is not fun. In fact, this has probably been my worst winter for running. I am always motivated to run after I spend a sunny day chained to my desk.
4. Trail Runs. I am ready to get back to nature. I’m so done with running on the pavement and paved trails. I want to scrape my legs on bushes. I want to catch my balance after nearly tripping on a log. I want to breathe fresh mountain air.
5. Speed Work. After running slow for months, I am ready to put the spring into my runs. The outdoor track will be clear and I can start working on my speed.
6. Go bare. I want to get back into barefoot running. I miss my minimalist shoes.
7. More running partners. It’s true not everyone is an all-season runner. It’s amazing the number of people who come out of hibernation after a few months. You would swear they kept the same hours as black bears.
8. More variety. We run routes all winter that we know will be relatively clear. It gets so very humdrum and dull. The x-country skill trails will open for running and hiking. Not to mention, there’s sunshine, green grass and flowers.
Are you done with winter?
