I ran a easy breezy 6 km run tonight. It was just what the natural-path doctor ordered. The weather was perfect – not too hot and not too cold or cool. My upper body was a little sore from last night’s rowing and kettlebell swinging. Even though I slacked on my runs this week, I didn’t want to run longer than 6km.

On Sunday I am running in Calgary’s Game of Life race. It’s my first 10 km race in a very long time. I can’t wait. I’ve ignored shorter race distances since I took up half-marathons two years ago. It will be a good test of my pace and patience.

My game plan is to run a slower 5k split to warm up and kill the last 5k. I want to to be gasping at the finish line. In all likelihood, I will be gasping throughout the entire race. If all goes well, I expect to finish around the 50-minute mark.

My good 10k training runs have been around 52 minutes. But we’ll see. I haven’t done a lot of my speed work yet this season. I’m hoping this race will be a good kick in the butt to get me moving (Much like February’s hypothermic half). It’s been so long since I ran a race. I hope I am ready. My pal @suzesilver is running her first 5k race or race ever. So it will be so fun to be able to support her and to see her first medal.
