runners' bliss

I set out on my long run this morning thinking soon this “long run” is going to be one of my shorter runs. Maybe that’s why I had trouble keeping a steady pace. My first 4k was brutal. My legs felt really heavy. I kept making promises with myself.
Okay run for 5 minutes and you can take a break. Okay just run 10k and see how you feel then.
I ran from my place down Taylor to Bower Ponds (6k) then through the trails until I hit 10k then I turned around. I noticed the bridge near 67 street and I knew it was at least another 6k to my house so I took that route. I hate doubling back. I added another 4k along the way to finish 20k before my street.
I ran much stronger in the second half which is always good.
I haven’t set a schedule for my marathon training. My coworker, Jeff, said once I feel good at running 30k, I should be good to go for the marathon. Right now I will just concentrate on getting my 3 runs in the week and the long run in on Sunday. I think after the Woody’s half-marathon, I will start adding more distance to my long runs (yes, obeying the 10% rule).
