ING New York City Marathon – Here I come!

By the grace of Buddha or something quirky, my name was drawn for the ING New York City Marathon. I was the only one out of the four of us who entered the lottery from Grande Prairie. I’m still shocked. It was only a few weeks ago I was watching the Dean Karnazes finish at the NYC marathon. Now in six months I will be one of about 40,000 participants. Somebody pinch me.
I was disappointed Audrey didn’t get in more than anyone because she really wanted to run. But guess what? She decided to go through a travel agency where you pay a little more and you get a bib. So we’re running our first marathon together – just like our first half-marathon. I’m so excited. It’s going to be a great experience.
I have no allusions. It’s going to be a lot of hard work. I am thankful I have 6 months to train. I have to move from 13 miles up to 26. Yikes! I’m a little bummed that I am not in Grande Prairie where I would have so many people to encourage me and run with me on those long runs. For now it’s just me and my running shoes. To be honest, I too excited to think about the three and four hour runs. I’ll just let the excitement sit for a few days.
