how humane

Let me tell you one thing I learned. There is no room for daydreaming when you’re driving such long distances (2,733 km to be exact!). You have to scan the roads ahead and be active in your driving. Wildlife can pop out from anywhere or so I am told.

We did see lots of deer on the side of the road. Thankfully none jumped into the path of my Versa. I think I would have had a heart attack.

I’ll share a few photos first of the wildlife we encountered driving back to Grande Prairie. I have to say the timing was perfect. There’s nothing like the sight of black bears or deer to cut the tension of two women who spent too much time together in a car.

These cuddly ones were on highway to Jasper straight from Valemont. We were pretty excited. There were actually three black bears. Then further up the road we saw two more and a brown bear. Unfortunately there was a car behind me so I couldn’t snap a pic of the brown bear.

I know everyone has seen the deer in Jasper. But this one spoke to me. Okay not exactly but our eyes connected and he said. Did you get my good side? I think I did.

Then of course the sheep. You don’t have to drive very far in Jasper to see these horned beauties. We got real close to them. Then all at once they mooned us in a way only animals can. At once they all faced us, then one by one turned around and showed us their butts. How rude! But I can see their point. There were about five us snapping away and yelling for them to pose. Some wildlife just aren’t cut out for modelling.
