A double dose of Moose Mountain

There’s something about Moose Mountain that always pulls me back. If you have been following this blog for awhile, you know how much time I spent on Moose in my early trail running days when I lived in Red Deer.

The weather has taken a turn for the better so there is no safer bet than Moose Mountain when you want train in a beautiful place. This week I went up twice.

Saturday, I tagged along with the CTR group from the West Bragg Creek Day Use. One group was were running 50 kilometres. I chose the shorter out and back option. The two groups stayed together until the saddle then the longer distance runners went off to run more trails.

It was one of those rare days on the mountain where there was barely a breeze. It was nice to spend a few minutes on saddle enjoying a snack and taking a few photos.

Snow lingered in a few spots but overall the trails were in excellent shape.

Mid-week mountain

I had a light day on Wednesday so I decided to meet Barb after work for a Wednesday afternoon mountain break. We met at the lower parking lot, and I drove us to the upper parking lot. This mountain road seems to get worse every year. I don’t like driving up this road but it is a necessarily evil if I want a short day.

There’s been a lot of bear warnings. It’s spring and they are waking up from their winter hibernation. But we saw no signs.

I lucked out again for a bluebird day. All the snow from Saturday will nearly gone. This time we went up to the summit where we took in the views.

Two totally different days, but the same mountain magic. Moose is never easy, never boring, and somehow never the same twice.

That’s why I keep going back.
