It didn’t take long for my butt to start responding to the leg workout from two days previous.
As soon as I started in a jog on the snow-covered sidewalk, I started to feel the burn. You see I took a little hiatus from the gym in September and October because I was either tapering or recovering from a race or big adventure.
I finally got my butt into gear this week because it’s November, and 2023 is right around the corner! There’s only two months left of 2022 – two months to cross off all those ‘to do’ items or goals that we set out to achieve about 10 months ago.
Where did the year go? How is 2023 right around the corner? I am a little behind on my 100,000 metre elevation goal (about 93,000 metres to date) but I have lots of time to get it down in the next six weeks. I really only need to climb 7 mountains. I don’t want to be forced to run stairs for elevation.
This is the time of year that I usually get restless and start hibernating. Race season is over. Snow is on the ground. Everyone is busy doing family stuff. I don’t know what to do with myself. So I try to fill my hours.
I started my daily yoga practice again. Early in the pandemic, I set a personal record of 152 days in a row. I’m not sure why I stopped but now I am determined to keep my new streak alive. My tight shoulders and hip flexors will thank me for the stretching and mobility.
This down time is perfect for getting back into the groove of all things that fall to the wayside during the busy training and racing season. I am just happy to slow down a little. It’s been a busy, busy few months.
I have dialled down my running overt the last month or bit so I have to pick it up again. I’ve been feeling a little lethargic. Snow is here so I have to taper my expectations. Really right now I just want to focus on short runs and strength training.
My weekends will continue to be in the mountains for the rest of the year. First I need to swap out my all seasons with my winter tires. We had our first snow this week so everyone is rushing to swap tires. I tried this morning to get an appointment but I was out of luck. Looks like I may be spending the weekend in Calgary.
Books. I haven’t read enough this year. I have been numbing my boredom and loneliness with episode after episode of Grey’s Anatomy. I began re-reading Born to Run again, which I hope will encourage me to turn off Netflix and open up a book.
What are you hoping to accomplish in the last two months of 2022? Any big goals? What are you looking forward to in 2023? I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
