Waking up more often in a tent has been one of my goals this summer. Camping has fallen to the wayside in recent years for me. In this second year of COVID-living, I really wanted to do the things that bring me joy in life.
I haven’t done any backpacking but I have done quite a bit of car camping. A couple times this summer, Tara joined me on a Sunday at a random campsite. She would generally meet me at a site that I picked after running that day in the mountains.
We would get caught up over wine and a fire. The next day I would take Tara on an easy hike in the area. Most recently we went up to Guinn’s Pass. We hiked the Galatea Trail to the pass. One day I really need to run this from Ribbon Falls in a point to point.
But that day we did my usual route. We started fairly early on a Monday. There were lots of cars in the parking lot but we didn’t see too many people on the trail. On our way back, we ran into Barb and Mike! I always seem to run into them every other week on the trail.
The smoke came in pretty quick as we made our way to lower Galatea Lakes. Every now and then we would get a whiff of smoke. Otherwise it didn’t affect us physically. Though it did add an element of wow to our photos. Cartoonish outlines of the mountains were all we could see by the time we reached the pass. Ominous almost.
Windy at the pass so we ducked behind some boulders for a little snack before we turned around. We had a great day hiking. It’s nice to catch up with someone who you don’t see that often but get on well.
Have you been camping this summer? What about backpacking? I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
