Eleventh Hour: Training for Lost Soul 100K

I’ve been quietly training for Lost Soul 100K in September.

I haven’t said too much about it because up until about two weeks ago I wasn’t sure I would even start. I am still dealing with the swollen soft tissue on my left foot. Swelling has gone down significantly but it’s still visible and can be annoying.

I feel very sluggish and slow but I am still putting one foot in front of another. I have been getting out to the mountains quite a bit lately. My mileage is steadily increasing every week. I just hope it’s not too late.

We’re still living in this pandemic world so things are aren’t exactly settled. I wasn’t 100 per cent the race would be a good but it is. I considered selling my bib since I am so undertrained. In the end, I thought screw it. I paid for the race. The hotel is booked. I just have to show up.

With that in mind, I picked up two new pairs of sneakers (road & trail), a sports bra and Tailwind nutrition. It’s getting real. I wouldn’t throw down that much money in one week if I wasn’t serious.

Gosh this race is going to be challenging. But I am going to throw everything that I have at it. I have a few good weeks left for solid training so I will do my best to stay motivated and not injured. I just have to think positively and stay focused.

I am heading to Lethbridge on Saturday for a LSU training day. One of the race directors is giving a little preview of a revised part of the course, which also happens to be one of the hardest parts of the race. Going to be a hot day in Lethbridge on Saturday! Wish me luck.

How is your summer going? Are you training for any races? I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
