I wish every weekend was a three-day weekend. So many possibilities when you don’t have to cram all your warrior activities and rest up for the coming week over two short days.
Last weekend I summited three mountains – Powderface, Pigeon and West Wind – because it is all about the vert. The weather wasn’t that great on Saturday so I ran around Nose Hill with Lisa and Barry. It pained me to share my “secret” loop but it was fun to have some company.
Overall I was pretty stroked about my weekend.
One definite highlight was camping Sunday night. Here’s a tip. You will almost always find a camping site at first come, first serve sites on Sunday evenings. After doing Pigeon Mountain on Saturday morning, I headed over to Three Sisters campground to snag a spot.
I arrived just in time as campers were living their spots. (There is 2 p.m. check out time). I had my choice of several spots and I opted for one close to the river. I set up my tent, cracked up a beer and read my book at the river.
By the time Tara joined me a few hours later, I was ready for a nap. I managed to stay up for a few more hours so we could get caught up and chat around the fire. It was a lovely evening. It’s been so long since I had girl talk with a friend over drinks in person. The next morning I dragged Tara’s butt up Wind Ridge. She wanted to quit a few times but I managed to coax her to the summit. She thanked me in the end. I promise
Powderface Ridge
This was my third trip up Powderface Ridge this year. Thankfully all the snow is nearly all gone. This is a nice, short hike with some decent elevation.
Pigeon Mountain
First trip up Pigeon Mountain this year. Last year I went up twice over the span of a week. The views continue to amaze me.
Wind Ridge
I have another long weekend coming up – I strategically planned it this way. I had plans and with a friend to go backpacking and hiking but our plans fell through. Now I am still packing up my Qashqai for the weekend and hoping for the best. The forecast is calling for super hot over the next week. Forget climate change, this hot weather is part of the climate crisis. Sigh.
I digress .. I am starting early to get lots of vert in solo this weekend. I should branch out and try some new summits but I have enjoyed tackling last year’s favourites. Besides it’s still early in the season for some summits. I can’t wait to see what the summer has in store for me!
