Hot homemade apple cider is my new go-to evening drink. Last month I was enjoying a store bought cider when it clicked.
I should be making my own drinks. I make my own kombucha, grow my own sprouts and make my own peanut butter. Why not make my own apple cider?
As most of you know, I come from an apple growing region so I know a thing or two about apples. I love Cortland, Mcintosh and Spartan varieties. I remember picking ‘drops’ on Saturdays to earn $10 or so when I was younger. Some of my most vivid memories were peeling apples for apple pie, apple crisp or even cider.
It didn’t take me long to research how to make apple cider then I transferred my new found knowledge to my instant pot. I used Granny Smith and Jazz apples in my recipe. But you can choose what ever you like and add more sugar or sweetener to your liking. Enjoy!
Instant Pot Apple Cider

- Masher
- Strainer
- Bowl for the apples
- Knive to slice apples/cutting board
INGREDIENTS:
- 9 apples
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 orange
- 1 slice of ginger
- Two or three cloves
- One teaspoon of brown sugar or other sweetener
- Water
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Wash and slice apples or core and slice
- Peel orange and divide in segments
- Drop apples and orange into instant pot
- Add spices and sugar
- Pour enough water to just cover the apples
- Turn high pressure on Instant Pot for 15 minutes
- Let the pressure come down
- Mash the apples in the pot
- Scoop out apple mixture in batches over strainer and press the apple over a bowl (to get as much flavour and juice as possible)
- You can strain your apple juice a second time to get rid of the grimy bits but I like thicker
- Drink hot or bottle up to drink later.
