Canada the beautiful: Update on my vert goal

Slightly tattered in places, the Canadian flag on Prairie Mountain waved gently back and forth in the wind. It was one of those rare winter days where a person could take her gloves off without her fingers losing sensation within seconds.

I was alone on the summit โ€“ another rare occurrence. As I looked at the red and white flag in all its glory, I gave a little thanks to the powers that be that I live in Canada.

Thank you. Thank you.

I know I am not alone when I say I have been obsessed with the U.S. election, and the gong show that has been unfolding in United States over the last four years. Much like a train wreck, you just can’t look away.

This blog isn’t about politics so I just want to keep my thoughts on the U.S. brief. I am just feeling mighty grateful that I am not living in that dysfunctional real life reality show south of the border.

Moving on … I am now sitting at 69,515 metres of vert. It helped that I trotted up Prairie Mountain last week. Also I got out with Tara once on Nose Hill in the dark. That was such a fun run.

I also had a decent week of overall mileage โ€“ clocking 62 kilometres. I have been averaging roughly 50 kilometres/week over the last few months. I am looking forward to switching over to mileage goals once I hit my vert goal. Sometimes I just want to run without thinking about the elevation gain.

I am feeling more confident that I will reach my elevation goal of 75,000 metres. The weather has been so so but it hasn’t stopped me from getting out there. My treadmill doesn’t count elevation so I have to run outside.

I was a little worried last month when all I could see was snow in the forecast. I decided I just have to get out and do it. That’s it. Full stop.

How was your week? Did you watch the U.S. election? I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
