All kinds of things were going through my head as I trotted down to the Bow River tonight. I changed quickly into my running clothes after work. I didn’t want to lose the last hour of sunlight.
Last night I glanced out the window at six and it was pitch dark. I don’t mind finishing runs in the dark but starting can be a nonstarter.
Anyway lots on my mind. For one, my upper body was screaming bloody murder all day. I started a new training program recently designed to increase my upper body strength. I hate chest day at the gym because I am so weak. But that means I cannot under any circumstances skip chest day. You have to work on your weaknesses, right?
As I was running along, I felt like I was wearing a weight vest or something. Maybe all the muscle that I am gaining is weighing me down. Is that possible? It took a little while and I was loosened up. Most likely I felt stiff or heavy because I haven’t run since Sunday.
Thankfully we’re in for a few good days of running weather.
Once again I was passed by groups of runners on the Bow River pathway. It was nice to see so many people out walking, biking and running. Winter hasn’t fully unleashed its fury on us so I welcome these mild days.
I have devised a few options for routes along the river, which involves a couple river crossings. It’s always nice to have a few runs in your back pocket that you can do without thinking about it.
Where is your favourite place to run? Do you have favourite runs that you can do without thinking about the route?
