Just after 10 a.m. I started on the northside of the Bow River. I could see several runners as I waited to cross the crosswalk near the Reconciliation Bridge. I knew there was a MEC race in some part of the city. Maybe that explained the herd of shuffling runners.
Then I saw the unicorn.
I followed her for about half a kilometre before I passed her when she stopped to tie her shoe or something. Who knew unicorns wore shoes?
Anyway … it was great to get out early. I had considered driving over to Nose Hill but I really enjoy running along the Bow River. I know it’s all still very new to me and eventually it will get a little boring. Until that time I am happy to run the paved trails.
I know there are trail runners that refuse to run pavement and pavement runners that don’t run trails. You know, I would much rather be in the mountains or on trails. But honestly some days it’s just nice to have one foot in front of the other.
About last night
I didn’t sleep very well last night. I tossed and turned for hours. I had something on my mind and I couldn’t let it go. Ever happen to you? So I got up just before 6 a.m. I went downstairs and picked up my copy of the Globe and Mail.
I read for a couple of hours in bed before I attacked Saturday. I felt really groggy but once I started running I felt like the weight of the world had lifted from my shoulders. My stress an anxiety melted away. It was going to be a great day.
Have you ever run a race in a costume? Are you dressing up for Halloween?
