I don’t know what I was so worried about. Yes I do …. my eye exploding into a million pieces as soon as I stepped outside. Jokes aside, I am back in the running game.
My eye has healed considerably. It still looks a little bloodshot but I expect it to clear up in another week. Whew! That was a long two weeks. Seriously I was getting a little stir crazy. At the end of the second week, I started back a the gym so I wasn’t going completely batty.
When you suddenly stop being active and do basically nothing … it’s a big shift. My legs were so sore from inactivity (and watching Netflix in bed). I couldn’t wait to get moving.
This past weekend, I tossed my glasses aside and put in my contact lenses. I avoided touching my eye or looking too closely at it. My eye seriously creeped me out!
I ran west along the Bow River Pathway on Saturday. The next day I ran east. Oh to be outside and running. Felt so good. I know it has only been two weeks but it felt much longer. I listened to podcasts and sang along to Maroon 5 essential hits.
I put my treadmill together with help from Karen, who used to live in Red Deer and now lives in Cochrane. (Actually she did most of the work but I make dinner.)
I had thought about selling my treadmill when I was moving into my new place. I need the money and I don’t use it that often. Then it started snowing and I changed my mind. No doubt if we have a long cold winter again, I will get my money’s worth out of it.
Next up
I don’t have any races planned for the rest of the year. Iron Horse was supposed to be my last hurrah for 2019. Laura wants to run a winter race – maybe Last Chance Half or Hypothermic Half – so I may consider running one of them.
Usually I would say no way to a winter race but I want to have a fun race with my friend. Besides it will keep me honest in my training.
Are you doing any races this winter? Do you like running in the winter? Let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear from you.
