Moose mountain adventures

You see that mountain over there,

Yea one of these days,

I am going to climb that mountain

A view of the mountains through the trees.

I haven’t been to the mountains since I sprained my ankle more than two months ago. My ankle isn’t at 100 per cent but I couldn’t take it anymore. The weather has been wonderful lately for December. I didn’t want to let another weekend pass without taking in the views and the mountain air.

Believe me when I say nothing beats mountain therapy especially when the days are shorter and darker.

Heading into the trees.

What a beautiful day to be outside in the mountains. Mother Nature was on our side as the snow and the deep cold stayed away. We had a brisk start at West Bragg, and the more we moved, the less the cold bothered us. My legs were heavy from Saturday’s deadlift and it took a few hours before they finally loosened up.

Overall I felt pretty good. No complaints from my ankle. All is good. I can’t wait to get out there again.

Into the snowy abyss.

The logging road was nicely groomed for skiers. Once we got into the shaded areas, we were welcomed with blankets of deep snow and shady black ice. Thankfully it wasn’t snowy the entire way up. I admit it was a tough slough in some parts. I was careful not to put too much weight on my right foot or to unnecessarily jump around.

We had enough around the 11K mark and turned around. It was just so nice to be outside. We didn’t really care about the distance. Time on feet, baby.

Right so the most exciting part was teaching Mountain Music to Rachel. Imagine this Brit has never heard of Alabama. Love this song. It was so quiet .. we saw one person the whole morning.

That’s fine with me. It was great to get caught up with an old friend and to take in the day. We reckon there won’t be too many days left this winter that we will be able to get so far up Moose from West Bragg.

In case you were wondering … that’s the original Mountain Music by Alabama. Enjoy!
