Exiting 2018 in Beast Mode

Let’s get right into it.

I had it all worked out. This morning’s plan was to get up at 5 a.m. Run for 45 minutes. Sort myself out. Go to work. After work I would write a snappy little post on how awesome it was that I ran close to 8K or whatever while you were still sleeping. It was the perfect scenario to introduce my “beast mode” 2018 exit strategy.

Right so that did not happen. I chose my pillow over the treadmill. (Even though I point out that I ran/walked 5K last night to ensure the darn thing was working. I haven’t used it since I moved to Calgary. But now that winter has settled in โ€“ it’s time to get re-acquainted.)

Last year at this time I started the challenge to run 70 kms/week or essentially 10 kms/day for a couple of months. It was a lot of fun, and it kept me honest. I like setting monthly challenges. (If you haven’t already check out my 30-Day Instant Pot challenge) Since October I have been doing some workout challenges with friends that I have been tracking on Google. Seriously when you see something logged or not logged, it can motivate you as heck. That’s why everyone says to “write down your goals.”

I am finally back to short runs. Ankle is feeling good.

So the burning question is …. what is this “beast mode” exit that I am referring to?

I’m going to finish 2018 with a bang. I am going to continue to try new things at GoodLife Fitness and stay consistent with my training (running and lifting). I’m really starting to enjoy training at the gym. The best part is tracking my lifts and weights that I use on the machines. Because I go to different gyms, I used to have to write down  where the machine is located. I don’t have to do that anymore since I have a solid routine at each location.

That’s pretty much it. I am going to try very, very hard to run before I head into the office. It’s a bit more challenging this year because I start work around 7:15 a.m. In order to set myself up for success, I am aiming for twice a week runs before work.

I took a spin class on Sunday morning.

That’s totally reasonable. My ankle still needs time to heal so I am not going to risk falling outside. What that means is I will likely pare down my weekly runs unless I can run when it’s light outside. No excuses on the weekends. There’s an 8K cross-country race coming up this weekend that I would love to do. (Remember I am supposed to be doing all the runs in the series.) I will decide on Saturday morning. The race is around noon so I will have lots of time to decide.

I don’t want to think about 2019 .. yet.

2018 still has so much to offer. It isn’t going away just yet. There’s still enough time to breathe, laugh and experience all that life offers.

  1. Wow, kudos if you can run or workout before work, I can’t even imagine! Beast Mode sounds like a good idea, though!
