October hiccups won’t slow me down

My website was down for the last few days and I didn’t even notice.

Crikey. I am a bad blogger.

Of course yesterday when I had lots of time and lots to say, I couldn’t write anything in this space. Isn’t that the way it usually works?

Speaking of hiccups … on Friday, I dropped my iPhone. Not a big deal since I am always dropping something. This time my iPhone’s screen smashed to bits straight down the middle. I can still text somewhat but I can’t see the entire keyboard. OK. I need (yes need) a new one anyway. I haven’t been able to hear out of the phone for months. The only way I can hear is if I put it on speaker. (I guess dropping my iPhone in the mud did some damage.)

Then there’s Saturday. I headed to West Bragg Creek trailhead for some trail action. About four-kilometres in, I landed awkwardly on my right ankle after crossing a little fence that gave way to an unexpected drop. Thankfully I didn’t break anything. (That’s my diagnosis.) My right ankle is bruised and swollen. I have some mobility issues but I am convinced I will be OK in a few more days. What a way to start your weekend.

I don’t have any pictures of the big “fall” or the tears that followed because Allie said she didn’t think it would be appropriate to whip out her phone while I was bawling my eyes out. Bless her soul.

Leading up to the weekend, I had been getting in some decent running and quality time at the gym. Truth be told, I am getting a little obsessed with glute exercises. I blame Instagram.

Parkrun

Thankfully the snow had melted for my second parkrun a couple of weeks ago. I remembered to bring my barcode and it turned out to be a lovely morning for a run. I didn’t recognize anyone from the first time. I think people just drop in when they are in the city. But I know there is a strong core. I may see if they need any volunteers this Saturday since I am likely going to be on the sidelines for a week. I was rushed because I promised Tina that I would help with volunteering at one of the Running Room events.

Teamwork

I became a member of the Calgary Roadrunners. That doesn’t mean too much except I get a discount at the XC Grand Prix Series. The groups seems very tight-knit. I ran as part of the three-person team for the relay at Confederation park with two runners that I met at the parkrun. The race was a lot of fun. We didn’t really care about our placing. We just wanted to enjoy the day and get a little running in.

Confederation Park relay race.

The relay was over in no time. These short races are killing me! I love that the races are hosted at different areas throughout the city (and Okotoks.) I’m sad that I will actually miss the next one this coming weekend if I ankle doesn’t make a remarkable recovery. I might still go to see Rachel for lunch or if they do a call of volunteers, I will be down.

A few of Bowness Park

The day after I volunteered at the race, I headed back to the Bowness Park to run. Nose Hill is great but it can be a little hilly on those days when you just want to run straight. I need to go back and explore a little more as I didn’t cover that much distance. I am so excited about all the new trails to run in Calgary.

Goofing around.

That’s pretty much it.

Running. Gym. Work. Sleeping. Reading.

Life is pretty chill right now and I am liking it.

  1. Oh no, your ankle! I was wondering what happened when I saw a few IG posts. Dang!

Also, I’m a horrible blogger these days – posted twice this month I think!
