Moving on …. to the mountains

I am no longer having trouble relaxing. In fact, I think I am unwinding a little too much. I’ve been in my final mountain resort destination for a couple of days now. The road to the resort was terrifying as hell so I have parked the Versa for the week. My little car has not done very well on these mountain roads.

Park it or lose it.

Before I left the Fairmont area, I ran around the Columbia Lake Provincial Park area. The Versa was sliding all over the road so I parked it again and ran to the park. It was quiet morning and I enjoyed the stillness of the lake. I kept thinking I am so fortunate to be at such a beautiful place in Canada. (Also I won’t get another holiday for another year or more so I better embrace every single moment.)

Fairmont hot springs is lovely.

I was not feeling 100 per cent on Sunday so I cut my run short and headed to the Fairmont Hot Springs. The pools were much busier than they were in Radium. Lots of tourists โ€“ who did not know the definition of personal space โ€“ and the regulars. I swam 10 laps in the pool, which is a big deal for someone who only knows one stroke.

An old Italian guy chatted me up for a while. (The man told me he was from Italy straight away but now lives in Fairmont) In my experience, people are generally curious/shocked/concerned when women travel alone. This man was no different but I didn’t want to get to share my whole life story so I stuck to small talk.

Lunch at Blue Dog Cafe in Invermere

Swimming makes you hungry. Thankfully Happy Cow had a few suggestions in Invermere. I chose Blue Dog Cafe, which offered mostly sandwiches and soups. I devoured the Autumn Gold vegan soup and a veggie hummus sandwich. Up until Sunday, I had been taking my meals at the cabin/resort. This is one of the ways I can afford to travel โ€“ I make my own meals. Besides as far as I can tell there aren’t as many vegan options in this area. French fries, anyone?

Mountains everywhere!

And so here I am in a ski resort until Sunday. The hill officially opens the next weekend. As you can imagine, it is almost like a ghost town. I don’t mind because it is the quiet that I seek. I feel really chill right now. My days have been filled with reading, running and yoga.

I could get used to this life.
