I can’t remember the last time I went away for the weekend – to just run. I know it hasn’t been that long but I really felt like I needed to get away this weekend. A change of scenery always makes my heart sing and my senses recharge especially after a stressful week. I booked an Airbnb and stayed in Cochrane on Saturday night. I found the most wonderful spot that backed onto the river and the trail system. I wasn’t there very long because I was out exploring and running in Kananaskis.
I was on the road late on Saturday because I didn’t plan well the night before. I drove straight to Station Flats where I decided I would run 10K in one direction and turn around. I didn’t see many people on the trail, which was fine with me. I needed to reconnect with nature.
It was a beautiful fall day. I had a pretty good run until I started getting hungry. Leave it to me to leave all my food in my car. (I devoured my peanut butter sandwich when I made it back to my car.) The trails were eerie quiet. A few times I thought I saw a large animal move in the distance. Thankfully it turned out to be a squirrel or a large log.
Above is a part of the Ridgeback trail. I’ve run this one a few times this summer. It’s quite nice. On Sunday, I decided I would go up Prairie (again) because it was short and I needed to get back to Red Deer early to do some work. I really could do this mountain with my eyes closed.
I chilled on Saturday night – watched a movie and read a book. Sunday greeted me with beautiful blue skies. Although I did hear on the radio that there was a wind warning for southern Alberta. My poor Versa was blowing all over the highway. I could live in Cochrane. It’s only 25 minutes away from Bragg Creek. It’s such a lovely little town.
It came as no surprise that it started to snow midway up Prairie Mountain. Thankfully I had enough clothing on. When I reached the top, I could see the storm blowing over. It wouldn’t last long. I loved feeling the snow in my face as I climbed. It got a little spicy on the way down. The ground was wet and I slid on my butt. I will have a nice bruise tomorrow. Since I carried my poles up (again), I decided to use them for a bit on the way down. Although it really didn’t make a difference, I was happy to have the option.
Getting away was just what I needed. I feel strong and refreshed. I got back to Red Deer at a reasonable time. I was able to get some work done and visit a friend. Now that’s what I call a nice weekend.
Did you have a good weekend? Let me know in the comments below.
Peace.
Nice videos! Still kinda weird to see you all bundled up, so warm here!
I hear you! I bet it won’t last long though 🙁
