I shut my eyes. I didn’t bother to set my alarm. I would just nap for 20 minutes. Famous last words? You’re absolutely correct. After doing some hill repeats on Sunday, I decided to take a little nap. I don’t know why I was so zonked. I was only on my feet for two hours. Nearly four hours later, I wake from my nap to realize I had slept the afternoon away. I guess I really needed extra sleep, and it did not ruin that night’s sleep. I slept for another seven hours.
Saturday was a rest day. It wasn’t planned but I was zonked from Friday so I cut my run short at 5K. I think this will do be good in the long run. Last week I bought new poles to replace the ones I lost at Lost Soul last year. (Actually I lost one and threw the other one away because I was so mad at myself.)
I don’t usually run/trail with poles but I know my quads will thank me during Lost Soul. They really are a lifesaver. I just don’t like carrying them when I don’t need them. It’s such a pain in the butt. But as you can see from the picture above, I can attach my poles to my pack. (This was one of the major selling points for me.) On Sunday, I practiced carrying them, putting them on my pack and removing them. I don’t want any surprises on race day.
My Sunday night meal (or was it Saturday) featured veg sushi and greens from my garden. You can never go wrong with steamed kale and Swiss chard. Oh so good.
I digress … I hope the poles will help take the load off my legs. My Achilles have not bounced back yet. Since last Thursday they have been very tender. (I blame the two 30K runs on pavement). So that’s it. No more pavement. I am determined to be kind to my body and take it easy. Lost Souls is my only race this year (so far) and I don’t want to screw it up by ignoring my feet.
Rest. Recovery. Roll. Compression. Repeat.
