Let’s hike: Tuff Puff & Kinglet Lake

Playing hooky on Wednesday, I escaped with Amanda to the mountains. I can’t tell you how wonderful (and naughty) it feels good hiking up a mountain in the middle of the work week. I wrote about it here too for the Advocate.

tuff puffThis area is so lovely and less-travelled than the Kananaskis Country region. I love its solitude. I absolutely love this haunting photo captured by Amanda.

tuff puffWe managed to complete two hikes to Kinglet Lake and Tuff Puff. We were a little confused by the directions but we just rolled with it. What was the worst that could happen?

kinglet lakeI still haven’t gotten the hang of posing for photos. Maybe I should have jumped into the lake? I stand here awkward as ever.

tuff puffThis bit to Kinglet Lake was a little dicey on the descent. I am happy that Amanda likes to share her hiking poles.

tuff puffAre we there yet? This last little bit up Tuff Puff was well worth the extra sweat. How gorgeous is this landscape?

tuff puffI think I am talking….. That’s why I have that weird expression on my face.

Let’s do this again! The mountains felt so close to us. That’s the North Saskatchewan River in the distance.

While the views may be amazing, you would never catch me sitting on this thing. You would find me in the bushes doing my business.

There’s a junction on the trail where you can either go to Kinglet Lake or Tuff Puff. (They share the same trailhead). If you are too busy looking up and at the mountains, you will miss the directions spelled out in rocks.

  1. That was so cool! Once again, you have made me extremely jealous! You don’t have your own poles??

I used to have them. I lost one and threw the other away in frustration because I lost the first one.
