November is my birthday month. So to Canmore I went to reflect and rejoice as I survived another year on this glorious planet. I was fortunate that the roads were clear because I haven’t put on the Versa’s winter tires yet. I spent two nights and two days in the glorious mountain town.
On Saturday, I rose early so I could get in a quick hike. I decided it was time to give Ha Ling another go as I haven’t been up at all this year. I think last year’s Ha Ling Challenge cured me of any desire to make this a regular hike. Still everything looks (and feels) different. Because I was worried about the weather (with no winter tires), I decided to stay close to the town.
It was so windy and cold at the top that my iPhone immediately shut off. Isn’t that always the case? Anyway when I reached the top, it became very clear to me that a storm was coming in. I didn’t stick around long enough to attempt to bring the iPhone back to life. There were several groups of hikers heading up while I made my way down. I guess the threatening storm didn’t bother them.
I made it safely back to my car with few issues. The big issue was forgetting to put spikes on my Altras. Oops. Fortunately I am a champion when it comes to sliding on my butt. I may look silly but at least I get down in one piece. Did I mention, it’s so much fun??
Later that afternoon I spent some time in the steam room at Canmore’s famous Elevation Place. Man I love the steam. My dream is to have a steam room in my home one day. I used Happy Cow to find a nice vegan meal. The day before I went to Communitea, my usual go to spot in Canmore. I took Shannon here a few weeks ago. We loved the nori rolls with its spicy peanut sauce! Oh so yum!
Happy Cow sent me to Aroma Authentic Mexican Cuisine. I had to try Jose’s Vegan Poblano. The restaurant was very busy so I took it as a good sign. I wanted to try the guacamole but it was premade with onions. Missed out on that one because it looked amazing! The poblano was sooooo good! It had the right amount of spice in the flavouring. Well done! I only wish I weren’t watching my weight – I would have ordered another dish!
My three-day weekend was pretty chill. I spent some time revisiting my five-year plan and making some adjustments. It’s been awhile since I opened up that Google document. It’s important to always have your goals close to mind. I admit I have been a little slack of late and that’s one reason I had to get away this past weekend. A change in scenery can help shake the cobwebs from your noggin.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you had a great weekend too.
