Two weeks ago, we had our September event for our vegan club – dinner at the Coconut Room in downtown Red Deer. Every month the restaurant serves a dinner with a theme. As soon as we heard about the vegan night, we called for reservations. Of course a dozen or more people said they were interested and wanted to attend. We had a strong number of eight diners, which is better than zero.
A few of us posed for a photo with the chef. Sorry the photo is so grainy. She wasn’t vegan but she often cooks without meat. That’s a start right? (By the way I am convinced she thought we were nuts asking for a photo.)
Carleigh drove from St. Albert to attend our night out in Red Deer. We had to take a picture near the rainbow sidewalk. I love going to Edmonton to visit Carleigh and Jon and trying out the vegan restaurants. Unfortunately there are NO vegan or vegetarian restaurants in Red Deer. I will continue to support restaurants that serve vegan meals.
Don’t I look exhausted? It was a long week for me but I was SO happy to get out. It was great to see Allie again. She is such good people!
Anyway … our first course was a zucchini noodle salad with a lovely dressing. (Sorry I can’t remember what it was.) A lovely mushroom and rice dish followed the first course. The sweet potatoes were SO GOOD. Our dessert was a lovely avocado lime pie and a coconut “ice cream.” Carleigh and I were convinced that curry would be on the menu. We were pleasantly surprised at the creativity.
Great night out! It was fun connecting with group members and their guests. I was only sad to see there was plenty of room in the dining area.
